No really, I seriously did.
At the time, I was frustrated with that person’s eulogy of the beloved Fr. Richard John Neuhaus (someone who, I might add, will not be remembered at the Yale Catholic Fellowship’s Marquand Chapel service February 5th, though they will be honoring Avery Cardinal Dulles, who was also theologically and politically solid). Of course, my old blog saw around three visitors a day. Why not tell that person to do what I thought would be appropriate in his case…said action rhyming with duck.
Fast-forward to three days later in the Refectory, where I was eating my daily bagel and coffee…when I get an email message congratulating me for making Mr. Bottum’s reading list.
“What do you mean,” I responded, perplexed.
“Your excellent analysis of Doug Kmiec’s eulogy,” he sends back.
Oh dear…
Yes, Mr. Bottum had found my post the same day I posted it, and had linked to it on the First Things blog. I was receiving an astonishing amount of traffic to my site (I mean…I was the only link in his analysis of that person’s eulogy). In fact, I had received an email from that person two days before I even knew that my three person readership had turned into a few hundred (I may post that email, and my response, at some point).
Imagine my surprise…I’d rather have been noticed by First Things for my scholarship (and perhaps my analysis of that person’s eulogy was indeed insightful). But, I suppose you take your meager fame where you can get it.
All that being said, here are the blogs that kindly mentioned my “excellent analysis.” There is this one and this one, and the original post here. In two cases, I special guest star in the comments section.
Update: I found one more blog.

Dear Friends-
I have arrived in New Haven, and in fact, orientation has already begun! I hope to write up my experience with it soon. Thus begins the travelogue portion of this blog (with occasional theological concepts thrown in as well).
Wish me luck!

Thirteen Things about Terry
-I understand that this may shred my credibility, but I do have a weakness for autobiography, just like everyone else. It also softens my image. That being said...
1. I've been to England, France, Greece, Italy, and Holland. However, I have never stayed in any of these places longer than a week and a half. The longest is Greece, which I've been to twice, for a total of two and half weeks. The shortest is Italy 2008, where I went to Midnight Mass at Santa Maria Maggiore, and then to Benedict's Christmas Urbi et Orbi...yeah plenary indulgence. I was there all of 24 hours. On a side note, the drunkest I got was in France.
2. I went to an all-male college in the middle of the Indiana soy/cornfields, call Wabash. That's right: all-male for four years. And now I'm considering the religious orders...fate? Irony?
3. At almost every meal, I eat all the items on the plate in sequential order. Rice and mashed potatoes can mix and join their friends. Shish kabobs are confounding to me, and frankly, I resent them for mixing without permission.
4. Richard Wagner, Blondie, and the Muppets Theme song have something in common: they are on my Ipod. I really have odd taste, sometimes.
5. I sometimes make major life decisions while intoxicated on wine, most recently my decision to convert to Catholicism. This lends proof to the statement "In vino veritas," or for our Latin-challenged friends, "In wine truth."
6. I have a two-month mood cycle, where I go from melancholy to content. Its like a slow tide. What's most amusing is that I've documented this in my emails to people.
7. I am the first one in my family with a college degree. I may be the first one with a Masters, and hopefully a Doctorate, as well. That would make me, technically, the first Doctor. Dr. Archambeault? Very strange.
8. I've begun "The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci" at least a dozen times, and each time fail to get past the first fifty pages. What's worse: I really like those first fifty pages!
9. I want to take voice lessons. Partially to sing opera for fun, partially to sing Gregorian chant, secretly because I like select show tunes. Select show tunes, mind you...
10. I use Freud's obsession with books to justify my own.
11. A Confederacy of Dunces inspires me to go to New Orleans. I've also been likened to Ignatius Reilly, for better or for worse.
12. I mostly use my cell phone for texts and emails. I rarely enjoy talking on the phone.
13. Ciaran Hinds has forever skewed how I think about Julius Caesar.
